Ocean Action

Ocean Action

The Arctic, and whole global ocean, is vital for life on our planet. Not only does the ocean absorb around a quarter of our carbon dioxide emissions, but it also absorbs 90% of the excess heat produced by those emissions. Ocean currents also redistribute heat from the equator towards the poles, helping regulate the climate. Without our ocean, the world would be a lot warmer.

The Arctic is warming faster than any other place on Earth, and is the ‘canary in the coal mine’ for the rest of the planet. This critical region is experiencing some of the worst impacts of global warming - while also facing new threats from oil exploration, deep sea mining, microplastic pollution, and overfishing.

As an ocean advocate, you can make a real difference to safeguard the future of our blue planet.

Stay updated with the latest scientific findings from our expedition, as well as the latest ocean campaigns you can support.

“Even if you never have the chance to see or touch the ocean, the ocean touches you with every breath you take, every drop of water you drink, every bite you consume. Everyone, everywhere is inextricably connected to and utterly dependent upon the existence of the sea.”

Defend The Deep

Sensitive deep sea ecosystems are being faced with the increasing risk of deep sea mining, which could have irreversible consequences on marine biodiversity and the climate. Opposition to this damaging practise is growing, and you can help by calling on your politicians to support a moratorium on deep sea mining.

30 by 30

Less than 3% of the ocean is fully protected from damaging practices. But scientists say we must protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 to stabilise our climate, preserve wildlife, and secure an equitable, healthy future for our planet. Call on world leaders to act on their promises.

Plastic Free July

Millions of people around the world take part in Plastic Free July each year - committing to reduce or eliminate their plastic consumption across the whole month. The campaign is a great way to raise awareness about plastic pollution at home, work, school, or within your local area
